VINYL REVIEW: METRONOMY - THE ENGLISH RIVIERA

I must have been very pre-occupied in 2011.

That was the year the English group Metronomy released their tertiary album 'English Riviera' and I somehow totally missed it. The 11 track album is a seductive mixture of minimalist electronic music, but with a bunch of non-electronic instruments.. in fact.. are they electronic on this album? I hear real bass guitar, real electric guitar, real drums and some very convincing analog organ.

But then again.. I do hear keyboards, sequencers and samples..

I listened to the first three tracks and that sealed the deal. The vinyl was ordered.. and then it arrived.. The songs are there, the production is there, and Metronomy.. has soul.

It's hard to pick a favourite track as the album is so good. But if I had to choose I wouldn't. Sorry, but this is one of those rare records.

But.. here are a couple of their cool video clips:

'The Look' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFrNsSnk8GM

'The Bay' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PnOG67flRA

'She Wants' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntVV3dTo-qw

'Everything Goes My Way' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9P2w_hq8YTk

Put it on, and when it finishes, you'll play it again.
